Secret Behind Tongue Pain

So far, the public only knew that a feeling is created when food touches the tongue and through the esophagus. But there were other scientific facts about how the body recognizes a taste.

Pain is not just about how the food is on the tongue, but there is a scientific fact that develops how a person likes a taste and a preference in choosing a particular food.

Here are some scientific facts about food that might help one's way of thinking expressed by Gary Beauchamp, a biologist from the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia, as quoted by CNN on Monday (5/16/2011), namely:

Map of taste on the tongue is not always right
Everyone already knows that the sweet taste on the tongue is located on the front, in addition to salty and bitter at the end of the base. But actually there is no clear map of the sensitivity of a taste on the tongue, and some people who have suffered cuts permanent tongue can feel a sense.

The nose can find a sense of
Scientists reveal that most of the recognized sense of someone actually comes from smell. This is because the aroma is inhaled through the nose to the back of the throat and will give the sensation of an aroma and flavor.

Particular taste can evoke nostalgia
Many people who have strong memories of going to a particular taste from childhood, so when he got the taste or smell of it will make it nostalgic to the past. This is due to a direct anatomical relationship between odor and emotion than the other senses.

One can reduce the fat and salt without compromising taste
Fat and salt are known to make a meal to be delicious and tasty, but on the other side of the two materials can cause molecular damage to blood vessels.

Someone could use broth, or other spices to enhance flavor. And begin to not use salt at every meal, because of some certain foodstuffs already produces sodium.

Children follow the mother's appetite
If a pregnant woman would be possible to transfer a certain taste preferences on the baby, because the fetus can detect and remember the feeling he gets until he was born. This also happens when the mother gives milk to her baby. This condition indicates that the child's appetite may begin in the womb and follow his mother.

Be the first person Happiness Open If Want

Jakarta, Some people sometimes have a nature more open to other people (extroverts), although some are closed (introvert). It turned out that the open nature of this could provide benefits. Studies show people extroverts happier than introverts.

The researchers reported that extroverted person is a cheerful personality type, it is because it remembers the past in the light or the scope of which is more positive than other personality types.

It also explains the happiness gap between the extrovert with people who have a neurotic personality trait anxiety and irritability. The results of this study have been reported in the journal Personality and Individual Differences.

"We found that a very extroverted person would be happier with their lives because they tend to have a positive outlook and are less likely to have negative thoughts and regrets," says researcher Ryan Howell, a psychologist from San Francisco State University, as quoted by FoxNews, Friday (6 / 5 / 2011).

Howell said people with high neurotic scale basically has the opposite view from the past so that he became a less happy outcome. Meanwhile, people are extroverts have a high energy level and tend to be easy to socialize with other people.

The fact that there is shown to have a more positive outlook on life and the lack of a negative view of the past to make people happy extrovert 45 percent more and have greater life satisfaction.

People who are extroverts tend to be more optimistic view of life, and do not want to save feelings of annoyance or discomfort, thereby reducing stress levels in the body of the person.

"Changing one's personality is hard, but someone might be able to change his views so as to increase the sense of happiness about life and helping optimistic," said Howell.

In a previous study found that a person's personality can actually be changed in subtle but critical. This is because a person's personality is influenced by many things such as religion, the environment and money.

Secondary Valuation Winners After Skype-Microsoft Deal (MSFT, GOOG, CSCO, CTXS, EBAY, PGI, CALL, VG, RVSN, PLCM)

Skype is no longer going to be one of our Top 17 IPOs to Watch in 2011 any longer… Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) has wiggled in and cut Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Facebook out of their negotiations with Skype. This morning Microsoft confirmed that it would acquire Skype for some $8.5 billion from private equity group Silver Lake.

Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Facebook would be the first losers here. Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) has already been under fire from many angles, but it has its Telepresence efforts and it owns WebEx and bought Tandberg for its web communications. This s just one more established strong competitor for Cisco. Citrix Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CTXS) also owns GoToMeeting, and you can argue that this drives the value up for GoToMeeting or you can argue that it is just one more competitive threat.

eBay Inc. (NASDAQ: is the immediate winner here in this Skype-Microsoft tie-up. eBay is still a partial owner of close to 30% of Skype after selling its majority interest. $8.5 billion is much higher than what the IPO value was going to be, and now eBay can realize an instant win here. In effect it will have sold Skype twice if you think about it. Shares are up about 4% at $34.45 pre-market.

Premiere Global Services, Inc. (NYSE: PGI) has now shed its old legacy fax business via PGiSend. The company brings together more than 15 million people in nearly 4 million virtual meetings each month. It also recently launched its new iMeet.com site for these meetings and the video compression for live meetings is incredible. Its most recent quarterly revenues were up almost 4% to $116.9 million and the company is both profitable and trades like a value stock.

VocalTec Communications Ltd. (NASDAQ: CALL) is one that is hard to say will be a direct winner based upon a “valuation boost” but the company did turn out to be a huge win for those who bought shares upon the announcement that it was acquiring magicJack that you see advertised as the dirt-cheap phone service on TV commercials. It has sold over seven million magicJacks and recently gave guidance for its first quarter of $30.9 million and approximately $0.22 EPS.

Vonage Holdings Corporation (NYSE: VG) was hit last week after earnings and shares dipped back under $5.00. Its income from operations increased to $30 million from $25 million in the year ago quarter although revenue was down marginally to $220 million. Subscriber lines are not really growing, but it listed some 2,408,228 subscriber lines at the end of the quarter.

RADVision Ltd. (NASDAQ: RVSN) and Polycom, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM) are two other players for video conferencing and they might be able to claim higher relative valuation as a result. The problem is that higher valuation here might be counteracted by tighter competition and further sector lock-out as a result.

This Skype-Microsoft deal may act as a lesson learned for Facebook and its super-young management team… Until Facebook goes public, you will continue to not be able to adequately fight these other buyouts if you want to chase them.

Why the Natalee Holloway story won't go away

The anguished parent of a beloved child victim hosts a series dedicated to finding the missing and bringing criminals to justice. Sound familiar? That's a pretty good description of "America's Most Wanted," the Fox Network's longest-running series and one of the most dependable series in the history of television. And it also describes "Vanished with Beth Holloway" (10 p.m., Lifetime), debuting tonight.

The host is, of course, the mother of Natalee Holloway, the college senior who disappeared at the end of a 2005 vacation in Aruba and whose plight became the center of what has seemed like millions of hours of speculation on cable news and gossip shows.

But before Beth Holloway can begin looking for vanished people, she must first rehash the story of her daughter's disappearance. And before she can even begin doing that, Lifetime will air the 2011 cable drama "Justice for Natalee Holloway" (8 p.m., Lifetime), in which Tracy Pollan plays Beth Holloway. Please don't confuse it with the 2009 cable drama "Natalee Holloway." Tracy Pollan starred in that, too.

Despite her many cable news appearances, Beth Holloway has a long way to go before arriving as a convincing TV host. Her delivery is shaky when it is not stiff. She certainly lacks the blunt authority that John Walsh projects on "Most Wanted." She may project an aura of being just another concerned mother when discussing her own missing daughter, but it probably won't wear well as she begins to discuss other family's tragedies.

-- "American Experience" (9 p.m., PBS, check local listings) presents "Soundtrack for a Revolution," a look at the songs, known as "Freedom Songs" sung at Civil Rights rallies, picket lines and in jail cells as thousands organized to fight segregation.

"Soundtrack" also features performances of Freedom Songs by contemporary artists, including John Legend, Joss Stone, Wyclef Jean and The Roots.

-- A week before the "Chuck" (8 p.m., NBC, TV-14) season finale, Chuck's wedding to Sarah nears, and his mom (Linda Hamilton) needs saving once again.

While this show has not yet been officially canceled, it's more than a safe bet to assume that next week's airing will be its last. For the record, its title will be "Chuck Versus the Cliffanger."

"Chuck" first aired in 2007 and, like "Heroes" sort of fizzled out around the time of the TV writer's strike. It had a decent two-year run that NBC decided to stretch into a four-year forced march. A fifth season would not be wise. But then again, neither was a third.

TONIGHT'S OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

-- An ailing boxer gets a second chance on "House" (8 p.m., Fox, TV-14,V).

Casey Anthony: George and Cindy ask to see her, WKMG reports

George and Cindy Anthony have asked to see their daughter, Casey, before the young woman’s murder trial begins, WKMG-Channel 6 reported tonight.

Jury selection is scheduled to start Monday. Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.

“I am told her parents are waiting for her to decide whether or not they will have a video visitation,” WKMG’s Tony Pipitone reported. “Defense attorney Jose Baez was made aware of the parents’ request this week, and so far, George and Cindy Anthony have not heard back from their daughter’s attorney.”

The parents’ attorney, Mark Lippman, told WKMG that he would fight the release of video of such a visit. But such a fight depends on whether Casey agrees to see her parents at the Orange County Jail.

The last such video visit for the Anthonys was August 2008.

In other Anthony news:

***WESH-Channel 2’s Bob Kealing studied George and Cindy Anthony’s request to be in the courtroom and not be sequestered during the trial. Retired Judge O.H. Eaton Jr., the station’s legal analyst, said, “I don’t think they have any right to be there if the rule of sequestration is invoked.” Next of kin are allowed in the courtroom, but that doesn’t include extended family like grandparents, Eaton told Kealing. If the motion had been filed in his court, Eaton said, he would have denied it without a hearing.

***WFTV-Channel 9’s Kathi Belich said Chief Judge Belvin Perry’s ruling on air tests could come down on Wednesday. “This could be a landmark decision, so Chief Judge Belvin Perry is taking his time,” Belich said.

WFTV anchor Bob Opsahl called the Anthony case “the most anticipated murder trial in Central Florida history.”

Meredith Vieira Officially Announces She's Leaving 'Today'

'Today Show' co-host Meredith Vieira is officially leaving the NBC morning show, she announced during Monday's broadcast.

"After months of personal reflection and private conversations between my family and my friends, I've decided to leave 'Today,' in June," she said, sitting next to Matt Lauer and Al Roker.

Vieira, who has co-hosted the show with Lauer for the past five years, said she has decided to spend more time with her husband, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, and their three children.

Ann Curry will take over Vieira's chair, and NBC correspondent Natalie Morales will take over Curry's news desk position.

"I feel like the high school computer nerd who was just asked to the prom by the quarterback of the football team," an emotional Curry said, calling Vieira a "gift to this broadcast" and if it was her choice, Vieira would stay on 'Today.'

Vieira said her goal is to stay in the NBC family, just not on the 'Today Show' couch.
